Following receipt of their registration and payment, students will be contacted for a copy of their valid student ID to verify eligibility for registration discounts. What Do You Want From Me? Getting an Industry Position from the Hiring Manager’s Perspective

In this interactive session, attendees will learn more about the types of non-academic positions available and how to achieve them, including tips on reviewing job descriptions, structuring the CV, and interviewing. This hour-long presentation includes two brief breakouts to practice evaluation of job description fit and a sample interview session. A 15 minute Q&A session will conclude the session.
How to Survive – and Thrive – In Industry

Learn more about what it takes to advance in a non-academic career, including tips on leadership and management skills, teamwork and responding to feedback. This session will also conclude with a 15 minute Q&A session. Make sure to grab a box in the Exhibition lunch first!

Deborah G. Nguyen, Ph.D. is a pharma/biotech leader with over 15 years of experience in drug discovery and development. She is currently the Vice President of Research at two biotech startups, Cellular Approaches and Anexigen, guiding the discovery and development of novel therapeutics to combat bacterial infections. Additionally, she provides career coaching through Pain Point Lifeworks, a resource for scientific trainees and junior investigators looking to identify, obtain and thrive in non-academic careers.
Deb received her Ph.D. from the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and a B.S. in Biochemistry from California State University, Los Angeles.

Join the editors-in-chief of the SLAS journals for a step-by-step overview of how to design and write scientific research papers more clearly and effectively to improve their chances for publication. Attendees will learn what editors want, what they don't want, common mistakes, insider tips and how reviewers evaluate manuscripts. Presented by SLAS Discovery Editor-in-Chief Robert M. Campbell, Ph.D. (Eli Lilly & Co.) and SLAS Technology Editor-in-Chief Edward Kai-Hua Chow, Ph.D. (National University of Singapore). All SLAS2019 participants are welcome and encouraged to attend.
